Animal Control

The Town of Cape Elizabeth has partnered with the City of South Portland and consolidated Animal Control Officers. The ACO of South Portland patrols and responds to calls concerning animals in Cape Elizabeth.  To reach support for an animal-control matter, please call the Cape Elizabeth Police Department number 207-767-3323 and press "0" to be connected to the dispatcher.

The Town contracts with the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook, ME to serve as the repository for stray and unlicensed domestic animals that are collected by the ACO. Unclaimed animals may be adopted for a nominal fee at this location. The state leash law is enforced throughout the community. All dogs must be leashed on groomed Town property unless specifically marked. All dogs must be licensed annually at the Town Hall. License your dog during the month of January to avoid late fees.
