The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for interpreting and enforcing the local, state, and in some cases, federal regulations that apply to building construction and development as well as inspecting new development and redevelopment in Cape Elizabeth.

Code Enforcement processes and approves the required permits for the construction of new structures and electrical, plumbing and heating work as well as signage and various other site amenities. This is done through the administration of a range of regulations including the Zoning Ordinance, building and plumbing codes, and others. Once the requisite permits are issued and construction or installation begins, the Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for the inspection of the residential or commercial construction or installation that is occurring.

In addition to code and inspection duties, Code Enforcement also acts as staff to the Board of Zoning Appeals in their appeals and variance processes.
