LD 2003

On June 13, 2022 the Town Council referred to the Ordinance Committee preparation of ordinance amendments to implement the State of Maine Legislature LD 2003 signed into law by Governor Janet Mills on April 27, 2022: "An Act to Implement the Recommendations of the Commission to Increase Housing Opportunities in Maine by Studying Zoning and Land Use Restrictions." The law expands the ability to build multi-unit properties in certain residential zones by loosening zoning restrictions in an effort to increase affordable housing units statewide. LD 2003 land use requirements take effect July 1, 2023.
On June 16, 2023, LD 1706 was enacted, granting extensions to, "Municipalities for which ordinances may be enacted by municipal officers without further action or approval by the voters of the municipality."
