Preliminary figures show nearly $800,000 drop in state subsidy for Cape schools

Preliminary state subsidy printouts published by the state Department of Education last week show a reduction of nearly $800,000 for Cape Elizabeth schools in fiscal 2018.

The printout projects $1.83 million in state subsidy for Cape schools next year, down $798,214 compared to this year's subsidy of $2.62 million, a decrease of 30 percent.

The preliminary subsidy figure is published for planning purposes, and is subject to budget enactment by the Legislature.

The projected decrease will be part of the School Board's budget discussion scheduled from 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at the High School library. The workshop will be videotaped for publication on this website.
