Sessions scheduled for public, facilitated discussion of controversial paper streets

The Town Council will hold two facilitated discussion sessions on paper streets in February: One at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018; and the other at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, both at the Town Center Fire Station on Jordan Way.

Good Group Decisions will facilitate the community discussions on the status of Surf Side Avenue and Atlantic Place in the Shore Acres subdivision.

The "paper streets" -- streets that appear on subdivision plans but were never constructed or accepted by the town as public ways -- were the most controversial of the 58 that the Town Council voted in October 2016 to keep as paper streets for the next 20 years. As such, the town retains the right to one day accept them for public use.

Each discussion session is slated to last between one-and-a-half to two hours, and will be led by one of Good Group Decisions' facilitators. A report on the findings is expected in March.

The Town Council on Dec. 11, 2017 voted to appropriate $2,506 for the facilitators' service as it works toward making a decision on the future status of the paper streets. [news article]
