Residents of the Brentwood neighborhood are invited to a public meeting on

to comment on paper streets in the neighborhood that may also serve as pedestrian trails. A paper street is a street that is shown on a plan recorded in the county registry of deeds, but was never built.

The town is undergoing a townwide process to review its paper street rights, which includes identifying paper streets. A goal of the Town Council this year is to resolve which paper streets will be extended for another 20 years, before the state's 2017 deadline.

Two paper streets, labeled U21-1 and U21-2, have been identified in the Brentwood neighborhood (see photograph). The preliminary recommendation is to allow the town's rights in both streets to expire, and to retain a pedestrian easement in U21-2. Public comment has identified U21-2 as a pedestrian trail.

The public is invited to generally comment on paper streets in Brentwood and specifically on the use of U21-1 as a trail. For more information, please contact the town planner at 207-799-0115 or maureen.omeara@capeelizabeth.org.
