Public hearing on $37.9 million combined 2016-17 municipal budget set for May 9

The Town Council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Town Hall on a combined $37.9 million budget for town, school and county services for 2016-17. Spending for Community Services is included in the town budget.

Proposed spending is up 3.8 percent over this year's $36.5 million combined budget. Taxes are proposed to increase 66 cents over this year's rate of $16.88, up 3.9 percent.

The finance committee, a committee of the whole council, voted 6-1 April 26 to send the budget to the council for public hearing, with Kathy Ray, town councilor and chair of the finance committee, voting against.

The council will take public comment on the proposed budget on May 9. Final vote on the budget will take place at a special meeting Thursday, May 19.
