Council eyes petition calling for Gun Club regulation

At the request of neighbors of the Spurwink Rod and Gun Club, the Town Council will revisit the controversy surrounding noise at the club.

A petition signed by 316 residents was presented to the council Feb. 8. The petition asks the council to consider regulating the hours of operation, and the environmental impact that spent bullets and lead may be having.

The club is located in the vacinity of Wells and Sawyer roads. The council said two years ago that it did not have the power to regulate such gun clubs. This time, however, councilors said they would refer the request to a future workshop to review what progress has been made since they last looked at the situation. That meeting has been scheduled for Monday, March 15.

Also on the agenda is a review of a report from the Fort Williams Advisory Commission, "Making Fort Williams Park Financially Self-Sufficient," and, an update on council goals.
