Garvin, Deveraux and Gabrielson win Town Council seats; Anne Carney elected to State House

Jamie Garvin, Valerie Deveraux and Jeremy Gabrielson were elected in a five-way race for three Town Council seats on Nov. 6, 2018.

A total 5,736 Cape Elizabeth voters cast ballots in the state general election, for a turnout of 69 percent. Of those, 2,796 were absentee ballots.

Winning uncontested seats on the School Board were incumbents Elizabeth Scifres and Heather Altenburg, and newcomer Laura DeNino.

In the state election, Democrat Anne Carney won election to the State House from District 30, while Cape Elizabeth voters in District 32 favored Democrat Christopher Kessler. Incumbent Democrat Rebecca Millett was also Cape Elizabeth's choice to represent District 29 in the State Senate.

Janet Mills was Cape Elizabeth's choice for governor, as were incumbents U.S. Senator Angus King and Congresswoman Chellie Pingree.

Cape Elizabeth favored all of the four bond proposals on the state referendum ballot, but voted against Question 1, the citizen initiative for an income-tax funded, home-based assistance program for senior citizens and people with disabilities. In a municipal referendum, an overwhelming majority voted to allow Cape Elizabeth Schools to join the Greater Sebago Educational Alliance Regional Service Center.
