Video marks beginning of Maine bicentennial year

CETV, Cape Elizabeth's public access TV, will join access centers across the state in showing Harpswell Community TV's "Bicentennial Beginnings: Setting the Stage" on March 15, 2019 in preparation for the 200th anniversary of Maine statehood.

The broadcast date is one year before the bicentennial celebration of Maine's entrance into the union on March 15, 1820. In this hour-long broadcast, University of Maine history professor Liam Riordan talks about what led up to Maine's statehood, some of the problems we faced then and continue to face today.

The lecture was filmed Feb. 8, 2019 as part of the Brunswick Downtown Association's Longfellow Days, a month-long celebration of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his family's influence on Bowdoin College and surrounding area. The lecture, sponsored in conjunction with the Pejepscot Historical Society, touches on the Longfellows' role in Maine's statehood.

CETV will broadcast "Bicentennial Beginnings: Setting the Stage" at 12:52 p.m. and at 6:52 p.m. on Friday, March 15. It can be viewed on the CETV live stream, or on Spectrum Channel 1302. The video will also be available on-demand on Harpswell TV's Vimeo channel.
