The town hauled its last load of compactor-generated household refuse to ecomaine on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

The load was hauled by Jason Emery (pictured), who is a 17-year member of the department and a regular driver of the tractor unit. The hopper and subsurface compactor in the transfer station unit is being taken out of service as part of the Recycling Center upgrade project.

Upon completion of the project, new stationary compactors will take the place of the compactor and transfer trailers that have been in service since the facility was opened in 1978.

The town has been hauling the trailer with its own staff and equipment since 1979. Prior to that the transfer trailer was hauled by a local contractor.

A temporary traffic pattern change will be implemented on Wednesday, May 17 and will channel users to drop-off locations for both single-stream recyclables and household refuse.
