Ticketed access to Portland Head Light tower on 'Open Lighthouse Day' Sept. 9

The Portland Head Light tower will be open to visitors on Sept. 9, 2017 as part of the the state Office of Tourism's annual 'Open Lighthouse Day'.

The tower will be open to visitors but because of limited capacity, these guidelines have been established:

  • Tickets will be distributed first-come, first-served.
  • 12 tickets will be given out for 15-minute periods from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Each ticket will show an admission time.  The ticket can only be used during the time period printed on the ticket.
  • Visitors must be at least 48 inches tall to climb the tower.
  • Visitors must be able to climb 85+ steps unassisted.
