Vietnam veterans to marshal 2014 Memorial Day parade

Vietnam War Veterans banner to be carried at the 2014 Cape Elizabeth Memorial Day Parade

The town will honor all veterans of the Vietnam War at the annual Memorial Day Parade Monday, May 26, 2014.

"In past parades, we have honored a specific veteran as the grand marshal. This year, all Cape Elizabeth Vietnam-era veterans will be honored, as a group," said parade organizer Jim Huebener. "If you are a Vietnam-era veteran, we would be honored with your participation in the parade," he said.

The parade, beginning at 9 a.m., will be held unless it is pouring rain. Participants are asked to gather at Fowler and Ocean House roads at 8:30 a.m. From there the parade moves north on Ocean House Road, left onto Scott Dyer Road and ends at the War Veterans Memorial next to the Pond Cove School.

A brief ceremony and laying of the wreath will be held at the monument.

All veterans and active-duty personnel are also invited to march.

Anyone who has a family member serving in the armed services are encouraged to notify Huebener, 207-767-1754 (home); 207-831-3625 (cell); or, jhuebene@maine.rr.com, so they can be recognized.

The parade will include members of the Cape Elizabeth Police, Fire and Rescue Departments, the Water Extrication Team, Lions Club, Middle School marching band, and Boy and Girl Scouts. Other groups interested in marching should contact Huebener as soon as possible so they can be included.

Following the ceremony, residents and guests are invited to an open house at the Town Center Fire Station.
