Human Resources Committee Minutes
June 4, 2009
Members Present: Linda Winker, Mary Townsend, Peter Cotter
Others Present: Alan Hawkins, Pauline Aportria

The Human Resources Committee met on June 4, 2009 at 8:00 AM in the Jordan Conference Room.  The Committee was presented three job descriptions for discussion.

The first job description presented was a new description for the School Nutrition Director.  Development of the description was derived from sample job descriptions from Yarmouth, Maine, Berkeley California and Somerville, Massachusetts.  Alan worked in conjunction with Karen Burke and Pauline Aportria to provide a description that would encompass the nutritional needs of the students while seeking an individual with proven fiscal and personnel management experience. Alan stated that they had received four applications from individuals to date.  Review of the applications and scheduling of interviews were to take place within the next two weeks. The Committee members discussed the budgetary implications of the new position.  The salary and benefits package proposed for the new hire is included in the approved budget for next year.  Alan and Pauline shall provide an analysis of comparative schools and positions for the Board’s review.

The Ed Tech II Technology Integrator for Teachers was the next job description reviewed by the members.  This is a new position and which is the result of the budget discussions to help move us forward in the area of Technology. These individuals will be to work with the Teachers not the students and will work on the curriculum piece under Gary’s direction. These will be school year positions.  Pauline will revise the job descriptions needed to include any certifications that may be required for the positions and provide a revised copy for the June business meeting.

The third and final job description was for the Developmental Kindergarten Teacher. The description was developed by Dominic to assist with 17 new students entering the District next year. This is not a permanent position and funded by a portion of the federal stimulus funds.  This position shall be ½ day Developmental Kindergarten and ½ day regular education. Due to the changing needs of the student population these positions are essential.

The Committee adjourned at 9:00 AM.  The next meeting shall be scheduled after the summer break.
