The Numbers
The recycling rate for Cape Elizabeth as reported by ecomaine (formerly Regional Waste Systems). Recycling tonnage includes materials from all three Silver Bullets and the corrugated cardboard tonnage. The recycling rate is calculated by dividing the total tons of recycled materials by the sum of the total municipal solid waste (MSW) and total tons recycled materials. The Recycling Rates sign at the Recycling Center and on CETV is updated monthly with the current statistics.
Every one-percent increase in the town's recycling rate saves the taxpayers $5,000.
