Hannaford Field to host college soccer invitational April 19
The Cape Elizabeth High School boys soccer team will host an invitational college soccer tournament on Saturday, April 19, at Hannaford Field.
Teams from the University of Maine, University of Rhode Island, and Southern New Hampshire University will each play two games. Admission to the event will be free, and all are invited. The Hannaford Field gates will open at 11 a.m., and games will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the last one starting at 2 p.m.
Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) players will play the University of Maine in the first game, beginning at 11:30 a.m. SNHU will then take on the University of Rhode Island (URI) at 12:45 p.m., and in the tournament’s final game, which will start at 2 p.m., Maine will play URI.
All games will consist of two 30-minute halves, with five-minute halftime periods, and 10 minutes between games.
At the game, players and Cape Elizabeth soccer boosters will collect gently used soccer gear, which two Cape Elizabeth High School seniors will take to Honduras in May when they spend 10 days in the country doing community service. Team members are collecting the gear through a program called Soccer Passback, a joint effort of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, Eurosport and Major League Soccer to help meet the soccer uniform and equipment needs of all communities, regardless of income, gender or location.
All are welcome to contribute soccer gear, including balls, cleats, shin guards, jerseys, shorts, and soccer T-shirts.
