Public Forum on road safety slated
for Sept. 28
The road safety working group is inviting the public to help identify specific
safety problems on Cape roads, and suggest possible solutions, at a public
forum on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 7-9 p.m. at Town Hall.
The group, established by the Town Council in April, has met three times
and is currently seeking citizen input on how to make travel of all kinds
safer in Cape Elizabeth.
The group hopes to:

Identify specific areas in need of, and methods to achieve, enhanced bikeway
and pedestrian safety;

Develop a traffic-calming policy to recommend to the Town Council; and,
-
Develop a set of recommendations for the enhancement of pedestrian friendliness
in the Town Center.
At the conclusion of its work, the group will present its findings and specific
recommendations to the Town Council.

or dropped off at Town Hall.
Suggestions received by the group so far have included lowering, and enforcing,
the speed limit in the Town Center; installation of speed bumps; creation
of a pedestrian trail system; more and better sidewalks and paved shoulders;
increased signage; and, treatment of pedestrian and bicyclist needs as
transportation rather than recreational issues.
Members of the group are: Town Councilors Cynthia Dill and Carol Fritz; Town
Manager Michael McGovern; Town Planner Maureen O’Meara; Public Works
Director Bob Malley; Police Chief Neil Williams; local developer Richard
Berman; and, Elizabeth Brogan, a representative of the Cape Road Safety
Coalition, a citizen group concerned with bicyclist and pedestrian safety.
