Hazardous Waste Collection Day
is Saturday, May 10, 2008
The Town of Cape Elizabeth will hold its Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Day from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008.
The collection will be held at the Public Works Building on Cooper Drive,
below the Recycling Center.
What To Bring:
From the Yard - Pesticides, Insecticides, Herbicides, Muriatic Acid,
No-Pest Strips, Chlorine & Pool Chemicals.
From the Garage - Antifreeze, Brake Fluid, Engine Degreaser, Carburetor
Cleaner, Creosote, Gasoline, Kerosene, Oil-Based and Lead-Based Paints, Solvents
& Paint Thinners.
From the House - Fluorescent Light Tubes,
CFL
Bulbs, Drain Cleaners, Furniture Polish, Metal Polish, Moth Balls, Upholstery
Cleaners, Photo Chemicals, Floor Cleaners, Spot Remover, Old Chemistry Sets,
Mercury. Electronics: Television and Computer Monitors (Other electronic
items currently acceptable at the Recycling Center: Swap Shop for reusable
electronics, metal bin for mostly metal items such as such as computer towers
and VCRs; trash compactor for mostly plastic electronics).
From the Workbench - Rust Inhibitors, Wood Preservatives, Wood Strippers,
Wood Stains, Paint Thinners, Oil-Based and Lead-Based Paints, Solvents,
Degreasers, Sealants, Resins, Adhesives, Unknown Substances & Pressure
Treated Wood.
How To Bring It:
· Tighten caps and lids and leave materials in original containers.
· Pack containers in sturdy upright boxes and pad with newspaper. Do
not use garbage bags.
· Never mix chemicals or unknown liquids.
· Never smoke while handling hazardous materials.
· Take items directly to the collection site.
What NOT To Bring:
Asbestos materials, 'CFL' Lightbulbs, Medical Waste, Radioactive Waste,
Commercial Waste, Smoke Detectors, Ammunition, Alkaline Household Batteries,
Explosives, Propane Cylinders*, Car Batteries*, Latex Paint*, Tires*, &
Motor Oil*
*These items are accepted elsewhere at the Recycling Center.
