In a tight race for two positions on the School Board, newcomer James S. Rowe outpaced his opponents to garner the largest number of votes for School Board in the May 4 municipal election.

James S. Rowe took 1,055 votes, and George Entwistle won 913 votes, to win the two seats open on the School Board. This will be a second term for Entwistle. Both candidates beat out former board member Karla K. Bernstein, who came in third with 791 votes.

In the race for Town Council, Anne Swift-Kayatta and John E. Roberts handily beat competitors for the two seats open. No incumbents were running for Town Council. Swift-Kayatta, with 1,096 votes, took the most votes for a single candidate, while Roberts followed closely with 963 votes. The nearest contender, David J. Backer, took 345 votes.

Voter turnout was 1,578, or 21.9 percent of registered voters. Town Clerk Debra Lane said it was a respectable turnout, but officials were expecting the races to attract a few more voters.
