Time running out to register unlicensed dogs

The Town Council will sign the municipal warrant for prosecuting owners and keepers of unlicensed dogs on April 14, 2008. The warrant directs the animal control officer to enter summons and complaint into court for those dog owners/keepers who fail to comply with notices of violation.

To avoid court action and a $25 warrant fee, the deadline to register delinquent dogs is 4 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2008. Dog owners/keepers who fail to comply with notices of violation are subject to immediate court action.

Dog licenses, $11 for a male/female or $6 for a spayed/neutered dog., were due Dec. 31, 2007. Between now and April 11, the fee to license dogs will include the license fee plus an additional $15, per dog, late fee.

After April 11, a $25 warrant fee will be imposed in addition to the license and late fees.

A current Maine rabies certificate and spaying/neutering certificate is required for registration. Online registration is no longer available for 2008 licenses.

Owners who have received notices of violation, but no longer own the dog, should contact the Ruth M.Noble, Cape Elizabeth Town Clerk, 767-7473, prior to Friday April 11, 2008. Office hours are 7:30-4 p.m
