Applicants sought for Town Center Planning Committee

The Town Council's Appointments subcommittee is accepting applications for a new ad hoc Town Center Planning Committee.

The committee was established on Feb. 11, 2013 to take a fresh look at the Town Center of Cape Elizabeth, using the 20-year-old Town Center Plan as a resource.

Five residents, including at least one owner of a business in the Town Center and one resident or neighbor of the Town Center, are sought to serve on the committee. [download committee charge].

Applications must be submitted to Debra Lane no later than 4 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013.

The rest of the nine-member committee will include Town Councilors David Sherman and Jamie Wagner; one member of the School Board; and, one member of the Planning Board. The School Board and Planning Board representatives will be chosen by their own boards.

The current Town Center Plan dates back to 1993. As a result of that plan, the Town Center Zoning District was adopted in 1995. The Town Center Zone reflected best practices for village centers at the time, but was a new direction for Cape Elizabeth. Since then, the “new" town center zone has been well accepted and many of its concepts have been imported into the "Business A" neighborhood zoning districts, adopted and incorporated into the Zoning Ordinance in 2009.
