Gull Crest Outer Loop Trail temporarily closed for boardwalk installation
The Gull Crest Outer Loop Trail is temporarily closed to allow for the installation of approximately 1,100 feet of boardwalk. This trail is chronically muddy and has been the subject of many Conservation Commission discussions regarding improvements.
At a special meeting Jan. 24, 2012, the Conservation Commission recommended that the Town contract with L.P. Murray Construction to install hemlock boardwalk from the floating bridge in the area just south of the marsh toward the Fowler Road connector. The project is funded within the existing greenbelt trail budget.
The project will benefit from frozen ground conditions, which facilitate transportation of materials. L.P. Murray will be able to access the trail from its facility at Fowler Road, minimizing impact to the wetland the trail traverses. During construction, which is expected to last until Feb. 15, 2012, weather dependent, access over the trail will be problematic.
