Applications for permits to store boats on racks
at Great Pond are being accepted through March 23.
Permits will be awarded by lottery March 26.
Applications for a permit to store a boat, canoe or kayak at Great Pond the 2012 season are now available.
Any town resident who would like to store a boat at Great Pond should submit an application by March 23, 2012 to the office manager, Assessing/Codes/Planning Office at Town Hall. Only one application per household may be submitted. Those who received a permit for the 2011 season and did not store a boat will only be eligible for a boat slot if supply exceeds demands.
A lottery will be held on March 26 at 9 a.m., in the ACP Conference Room, where 32 applications will be drawn. Winners will be notified and will have until April 2 to pay the $20 Boat Storage Permit fee. Any permits remaining after that date will be distributed in a second drawing from the original application pool.
This is the third year that the Town of Cape Elizabeth provides seasonal boat storage at Great Pond for town residents. At the end of this boat storage season, the Conservation Commission will conduct their annual review. This review will include periodic monitoring reports of boat storage use at Great Pond.
The lottery applies to boat storage only. Residents and visitors are free to bring boats to Great Pond for day use.
