Technology, communication head lists of goals for School Board in 2010
The School Board on Feb. 9, 2010 adopted two, 10-item lists of goals for 2010.
The first set of School Board goals apply directly to work that board members and the board as a whole would work toward, said School Board Chairman Rebecca Millett. The second list, "district goals", involve administrators and staff, as well as the board.
As it did last year, technology tops the list of School Board goals. This year the board will look specifically to evaluate the effectiveness of technology integrators, technology in the classroom and use of technology integrated in teacher evaluations.
Three technology integrators, one at each of Cape Elizabeth's schools, have been working this year to help teachers maximize learning by making the most of technological tools available.
Top among the board's goals for administration and staff is to build a strong communication network among school organizations, such as booster organizations and parent associations.
Here are the lists of goals adopted by the School Board for 2010. Each of the board goals is followed by the board subcommittee or officer responsible for that goal:

Continue the systematic analysis of district programs and services.

Review staff professional development to maximize utilization of district resources and impact on student learning.

Evaluate and report on a regular basis progress on Board goals

Examine plans and implementation of student transitions between schools.

Maximize all potential funding sources.

Develop a coalition with other district boards to brainstorm, collaborate on initiatives and advocate for public education.

Support an examination of district climate through workshops resulting in recommended action plans.

Develop Annual Report on school achievements to School Board.

Hold “Key Communicator” breakfasts on quarterly basis with community organizations.

CAPE ELIZABETH SCHOOL BOARD
DISTRICT GOALS
- Build strong communication network among district school organizations (i.e., boosters, parent associations, etc).
- Obtain adequate funding necessary to provide the quality education our community expects for its children. (Ascertain that the district is receiving maximum funding possible under EPS and make all efforts to receive Race To The Top funding.)
- Strengthen staff evaluation procedures to be able to recognize teachers who demonstrate outstanding effectiveness.
- Utilize student learning measurement standards that will facilitate performance comparisons on a national basis.
- Examine synthetic phonics programs for K-2 and determine economic and educational viability.
- Evaluate all staff positions for effective use of resources.
- Provide outdoor learning experience for active learners.
- Establish annual goal setting process for the district which will provide the basis for the utilization of its human and financial resources.
- Continue the work of the Curriculum Management plan/Curriculum Instruction and Assessment
- Collaborate with other districts on cost sharing/learning opportunities.
