The Cape Elizabeth Conservation Commission will continue its boat-rack construction project at Great Pond on Saturday, March 20, beginning at 9 a.m.
Volunteers with construction skills are especially needed. Volunteers should meet at Great Pond via the Fenway Road entrance. Parking is allowed on both sides of Fenway Road, but not in the cul-de-sac.
The commission began the project on Saturday, March 13, and is working to complete the racks before the Town begins issuing permits for boat storage at Great Pond on April 15 (click here for news article).
New boat storage rules prohibit storage of boats in the vegetative buffer around Great Pond. Any boats left at Great Pond after March 25, 2010 will be removed. Instead, residents may purchase a permit to store their boats on racks that are currently under construction.
The boat racks will be built on-site at the head of the trail leading to the Great Pond boat launch area, which is most easily accessed from the end of Fenway Road.
Boaters may continue to carry boats to and from Great Pond for day use.
