Cape High government class hosts GOP gubernatorial candidate's debate March 30

Cape Elizabeth High School's advanced-placement government class will host a Republican gubernatorial candidate's debate from 7:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in the High School auditorium, 345 Ocean House Road.

Participating candidates for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010 are Steve Abbott, Matt Jacobson and Bill Beardsley. Two of the government students will act as moderators on stage with the candidates.

Students will be running this event in the style of the Cleveland Club Forum, said government class instructor Ted Jordan. "That is to say that as people enter the auditorium, they will receive an index card on which they may write a question that they have for the candidates," Jordan said. Students will collect the cards after the debate begins, then read through them to choose the best, most appropriate questions, Jordan said.

"This will give us a chance to see some of those who are running for the Republican Party's nomination, he said.
