New activities will join old favorites at Family Fun Day planned for June 12
Planning for this year's Family Fun Day, scheduled for June 12, 2010, is continuing and the planning committee has announced the addition of some new activities, as well as the return of some favorites old and new.
"Besides popular perennials such as ring-toss, the train ride, and bottle throw, we are happy to welcome the return of Maine Rock Gym and the rock-climbing wall with the addition of Monkey Motion, an innovative new jumping system," said Ted Smith, a member of the Family Fun Day committee. ReMaX will again be providing hot-air balloon rides in the morning prior to the days' events, and the committe invites everyone to catch the morning sun from above the tree line and enjoy a spectacular view of the harbor and islands.
Considered the “unofficial” kickoff to summer in Cape Elizabeth, Family Fun Day is a non-profit event meant to encourage and support the numerous groups and organizations in our town, including sports and music boosters, and the many community-service and religious groups that rely entirely on contributions and fund-raisers such as this.
Please note, there will be no scheduled rain date.
Booth space is ample and free, but groups and responsible for their own set-up.
For local artisans and craftspersons, Family Fun Day is a chance to get the jump on the summer’s art shows and have a fun day besides. Artisans interested in participating may contact Rose Kennealy, 799-1674.
The Family Fun Day committee of volunteers always welcomes assistance in a variety of areas - particularly on the day of the event - including the parade, games and cleanup. "We are also asking for people interested in serving on the committee in planning and organizing the event itself — the level of involvement is up to you," Smith said.
"Family Fun Day celebrates our spirit of community as well as our love and appreciation of Fort Williams itself," Smith said. For more information about Family Fun Day or to volunteer, please contact Steve Culver, 767-9072.
