Town Council hearing on shoreland zoning set for Sept. 14
Goddard Mansion, Shore Road path public hearings also set for Sept. 14, 2009
The Town Council will hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to
shoreland zoning regulations on Monday, Sept. 14, 7:30 p.m. in the Town
Hall chamber.
The proposed amendments, recommended for approval by the Planning
Board, are a state mandate that should have been implemented July 1,
2009. Cape Elizabeth's Planning Board held a public hearing on the
amendments in April, but because of insufficient notice, the board held
another hearing in July.
Copies of the draft text amendments and maps are available on this Web
site. An alternative map for the Olde Colony Lane area off of Shore
Road is also available on this site.
The Olde Colony Lane alternative makes more area eligible for reduction
of mandatory wetland buffers, but, the change is not very significant,
said Town Manager Michael McGovern.
Heavy
on hearings
The Sept. 14 meeting will be heavy with public hearings, with hearings
for a proposal to dispose of the Goddard Mansion ruins, and for the
Shore Road pathway proposal, already scheduled. However, putting the
shoreland zoning amendments off would put Cape Elizabeth in further
violation, McGovern said.
Shore
Road path hearing Sept. 14, 2009
Also at their August meeting, the Town Council formally set a public
hearing on a proposal for a pathway along Shore Road.
The council received the report, completed by the Shore Road Pathway
Study Committee in March, at their April meeting, and reviewed the
concept proposal in a June workshop.
At their July meeting, the council informally set the hearing on the
Shore Road path proposal for Sept. 14.
More inforrmation on the Shore Road path proposal, including the committee's final report, are available on this Web site.
