Curriculum to recur as theme for 2009-2010 School Board workshops
The School Board is taking a different approach to workshop meetings held every month in the High School library.
Workshops during the 2009-10 school year will focus on a designated area of curriculum, Chairman Trish Brigham said at the board's regular business meeting Nov. 3.
For example, science curriculum was the focus of the October workshop, held on the 27th. The meeting included presentation of the science curriculum by Middle School Principal Steven Connolly, staff of the science curriculum committee, and the board's Teaching and Learning subcommittee.
The next workshop, scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the High School library, will be English Language Arts.
"We are working through the process to provide more useful information to our administration, our staff, the School Board and for members of the public," Brigham said.
In a telephone interview, Brigham said the new focus will allow all stakeholders to discuss strengths and weaknesses of school curriculum districtwide, and help the board to link budget considerations to curriculum. The new focus stems from the work of the board's new Teaching and Learning subcommittee, working with the staff Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment team.
Brigham encouraged members of the public to attend workshops if possible.
Meeting dates, times and topics are listed on the School Board's agenda page of this Web site, and on the meetings calendar. Generally workshops are held at 7 p.m. in the High School library on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Officials are also working to record the workshops for view on this Web site. |
