Officer achieves highest score ever in basic law enforcement training program
Cape Elizabeth Police Officer Rory Diffin received the Academic Proficiency Award for obtaining the highest academic score in his class at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy 16th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program.
Diffin, a one-year veteran of the Cape Elizabeth Police Department, was one of 53 cadets to graduate from the program on May 22, 2009.
With a total academic score of 98.86, Diffin obtained the highest score ever for a cadet in the basic law enforcement class.
The class started Jan. 20, 2009 and ran for 18 weeks. Cadets live at the academy during the weekdays and come home on weekends, where most of their time is spent studying for exams the following Monday.
"The Cape Elizabeth Police Department is very proud of Officer Diffin’s achievement at the academy," said Police Chief Neil Williams in a press release. Diffin has resumed his duties on patrol with the department, Williams said.
Diffin is a graduate of the Islesboro Central High School and obtained a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Utica College in upstate New York.
