Sawyer Road down to one lane next week as town completes last major paving project of the season

Motorists and others using Sawyer Road next week may expect some delays as the town's Public Works Department completes its last major paving project of the season.

Beginning Oct. 1, 2009, weather permitting, Public Works is planning to shim Sawyer Road between Eastman Road and the South Portland line. (The original start date of Tuesday, Sept. 29, has been moved to Oct. 1.)

"This is a simple leveling of the road surface with a thin layer of asphalt to reduce potholes and make it scrape a little better this winter," said Public Works Director Robert Malley.

If the weather still looks questionable the paving will be rescheduled, Malley said.

"There may be slight delays as the work is underway, and one-way traffic will be maintained at all times," Malley said.
