Petitions available for nominations to Portland Water District board

An election for a local representative to the Portland Water District's Board of Trustees will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Cape Elizabeth High School. The seat represents Cape Elizabeth and South Portland on the board of trustees.

The election will be held along with the municipal election for Town Council and School Board. (Click here for news story).

Nominating papers for the five-year term, to expire in November, 2014, are available at the town clerk's office. Candidates have until 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, to have petitions verified to be included on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Nominees must gather between 35-50 registered voters in Cape Elizabeth AND between 100-150 registered voters in South Portland.

Nominees must also appear in person at the clerk's offices in both municipalities prior to the Sept. 4 deadline to complete the papers.

Questions should be directed to Debra Lane, Town Clerk, 799-7665, e-mail debra.lane@capeelizabeth.org.

Candidates are also encouraged to contact the clerk before putting up political signs. The town's sign ordinance (Chapter 21) limits the size and placement of political signs in Cape Elizabeth.
