Collection of unwanted medications scheduled for Town Center Fire Station
For the second year, Cape Elizabeth Police have partnered with groups from Cape Elizabeth and neighboring communities to sponsor a collection of old or unwanted medications.
The collection will be held at two locations from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009: at the Town Center Fire Station on Jordan Way, and, in South Portland at that city's recreation center, Nelson Road.
The collection offers a way for citizens to safely dispose of unwanted or
expired medications.
Proper disposal of unused medications safeguards against child and teen overdoses;
and, protects the environment from flushed or tossed medicines that find
their way into ground or surface water, and ultimately into Casco Bay.
Medications should be kept in their original bottles and labels for the
collection.
The Medication Collection Project is a collaborative effort by the Town of Cape Elizabeth, the Cape Elizabeth Healthy Outreach for Prevention and Education (HOPE); CVS pharmacies in Millcreek and at Pond Cove Shopping Center; the Cape Elizabeth/South Portland TRIAD; the City of South Portland; ecomaine; the South Portland Community Advocates for Social Action (SPCASA); and the College of Nursing & Health Professions at the University of Southern Maine.
