Pond Cove to start Walk/Bike to School days for school year Oct. 1

The School Board's Wellness Committee has set Oct. 1, 2008 as the first Walk/Bike to school day of this school year.

Cape Elizabeth Schools established designated walk/bike to school days two years ago, an initiative of the Wellness Committee.

Due to the new school start times, only Pond Cove School will participate in this first day for the 2008-09 school year.

As in the past, volunteers are needed to assist with areas within the school campus, as well as identified safety areas along Route 77. The philosophy is, however, that parents are responsible for supervision and safety of walkers and bikers prior to arriving on the school campus.

The fall Walk/Bike to school day is being held in conjunction with International Walk to School Month.
