Family Fun Day planning underway

Committee welcomes participation on all levels

March 22, 2010 - Family Fun Day is alive and well and planning for this year’s event is well under the way. Eagerly anticipated and actively participated in, Family Fun Day celebrates our spirit of community as well as our love and appreciation of Fort Williams itself. Considered the “unofficial” kickoff to summer in Cape Elizabeth, Family Fun Day is a non-profit event that is meant to encourage and support the numerous groups and organizations in our town — groups like the sports and music boosters as well as the many community service and religious groups that rely entirely upon contributions and fund raisers such as this. Supporting Family Fun Day is in effect supporting them by providing them a chance to raise much needed revenue while encouraging the small town spirit of caring and community that is New England. The date for this year’s event is June 12th. Please note, there will be no scheduled rain.

As always, the Committee is working hard on the day’s events. Besides popular perennials such as ring-toss, the train ride, and bottle throw, we are happy to welcome the return of Maine Rock Gym and the rock-climbing wall with the addition of Monkey Motion, an innovative new jumping system. Come and test you skill and daring along with the many other offerings available throughout the day. ReMax will again be providing hot air balloon rides in the morning prior to the days’ events. Catch the morning sun from above the tree line and enjoy a spectacular view of the harbor and islands.

Booth space is ample and free, however, you will be responsible for your own set-up. If you are a local artist or craftsperson, this is your chance to get the jump on the summer’s art shows and have a fun day besides. Artisans interested in participating in this year’s event, please contact Rose Kennealy at 799-1674.

The culmination of months of planning and organization by a small group of volunteers, the Family Fun Day Committee is always welcome to assistance in a variety of areas, particularly on the day of the event, including the parade, games and cleanup. We are also asking for people interested in serving on the Committee in planning and organizing the event itself — the level of involvement is up to you. This is a great way to get involved in the Town and have fun while doing it. If interested, or if you would like more information about Family Fun Day, please contact Steve Culver, at 767-9072. Come and help us make this year’s event the best ever!
